Selectmen’s Meeting Minutes
May 2, 2005

Annual Town Meeting
Hanson Middle School

Present:  Robert Forte, Cathy Kuchinski, Rebecca Coletta, Jesse McSweeney and Mark Gallivan.  Also present Executive Secretary Michael Finglas and Executive Assistant Meredith Marini.

7:02 p.m.       Chairman Kuchinski called the meeting to order.

Item I.         Executive Assistance’s salary -  Mrs. Marini provided the Board with a spreadsheet indicating increases from 3% to 5% and a total budget request of $41,293.00 to $42,050.00 which included $2,340 for 5 hours per week for 26 weeks.

MOTION by Gallivan, second by McSweeney to recommend to Town Meeting Line 29 – Selectmen Other Wages at $42,050.00.  Voted 5 – 0.

Item II.        The Board discussed strategies on handling the Town Administrator’s salary.  The Finance Committee recommended a 5% increase.  The Board would explain that after consultations, the Town Administrator job description group was proceeding with the model job description presented by the Government Study Committee.

MOTION by Coletta, second by McSweeney to adjourn to Town Meeting.  Voted 5 – 0.

7:25 p.m.       Adjourned to Town Meeting

7:26 p.m.       Reconvened – Second Session

Item I.         At the Town Clerk’s request the Board reconvened to discuss strategies in the event a proposition 2 ½ override was voted by Town Meeting.  Town Clerk, Sandra Harris explained that a special election would be necessary.  By consensus the Board agreed to call a special election on June 11th in the event the school committee called for an override vote to fund the school budget.

MOTION by Gallivan, second by McSweeney to recess to Town Meeting.  Voted 5 – 0

7:30 p.m.       Recessed to Town Meeting.

11:00 p.m.      Reconvened – Third Session

Item I.         During the Annual Town Meeting the School Committee moved that the School budget be funded through a Proposition 2 ½ override.

MOTION by Gallivan, second by McSweeney to hold special election on Saturday, June 11, 2005 in the Maquan School cafetorium, polling hours 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and to place the following question on the ballot:

“Shall the Town of Hanson be allowed to assess an additional $378,711.00 in real estate and personal property taxes for the purpose of funding the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District PreK-12 assessment for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2005?  Voted 4 – 1 (Forte)

MOTION by McSweeney, second by Gallivan to adjourn.  Voted 5 – 0

        11:05 p.m. Meeting adjourned
